Let's get started.
Community Notes
Explore Fairbanks One Trail at a Time
One of the best things about living in Fairbanks is that adventure is often just a short drive—or even a short walk—away. Whether you're looking for a peaceful stroll, a family-friendly outing, or a more challenging hike, the Fairbanks North Star Borough offers free downloadable trail maps for many of our area's most popular trails and recreation areas.
Before heading out, remember a few simple trail etiquette tips: stay on marked trails, pack out what you bring in, be courteous to other trail users, and give wildlife plenty of space. If you're bringing your dog along, be sure to clean up after them so everyone can enjoy the trails.
As summer begins to wind down, it's the perfect time to discover a new favorite trail, or revisit one you haven't explored in a while.

Looking Ahead
Meet Your Neighbors
Running a business means wearing a lot of hats, and for many owners, human resources is one of the most challenging. That's where Evergreen Solutions comes in. Founded by Melissa Elerick, Evergreen Solutions provides practical HR consulting and support for small and mid-sized businesses across Alaska and throughout the United States.

Melissa started Evergreen Solutions after seeing how many business owners felt overwhelmed trying to manage HR alongside everything else. She wanted to create an HR consulting experience that was approachable, practical, and truly supportive—helping clients move forward with confidence instead of adding more to their already full plates.
From HR consulting and compliance support to policy development, employee relations, and compensation guidance, Melissa partners with growing businesses that want to build a strong foundation while focusing on what they do best. One memorable project involved helping a rapidly growing Alaska-based, remote-first company develop policies and state-specific compliance processes that made hiring easier while maintaining the positive workplace culture they had already built.
Melissa believes proactive HR can save businesses significant time, money, and stress, and that the best HR consultant is someone who feels like part of your team. She especially enjoys serving Alaska's resilient business community and learning the story behind each company she works with.

When she's not working, Melissa enjoys exploring Alaska with her husband on their motorcycle and walking the Homer Spit with their dog in search of sea glass. If your business is growing and you're looking for practical, people-focused HR support, Evergreen Solutions would love to be part of your journey.

Your Turn
Fairbanks is full of interesting people, opinions, and stories. Each week, we'll ask a quick question just for fun and share some responses in the next edition.
Question: What's one thing every newcomer to Fairbanks should experience at least once?
Last week we asked “What's one local business you think deserves more attention? Tell us why!”
We loved reading your recommendations this week! Here are a few: Hawks Greenhouse was praised for its knowledgeable staff, fun classes, and welcoming atmosphere. The Peony Patch Uprooted earned a shoutout for its creative gifts, colorful space, and inspiring environment. A reader recommended The North Pole Crepery, where the friendly staff and delicious crepes keep customers coming back. We also heard about the historic Tolovana Roadhouse, a beloved Interior landmark facing erosion along the Tanana River, and the Fairbanks Children's Museum, another local favorite that deserves a visit.
Thank you for helping us discover (and rediscover) some of the great businesses and organizations that make our community special!
That’s it for this week.
