There’s always something happening around Fairbanks—and we’re here to help you keep up with a little more of it.

Each week, we bring together local events, community updates, useful things to know, and stories from the people and businesses that make Fairbanks what it is. Whether you’ve lived here for decades or are still getting to know the area, we hope you find something useful, interesting, or worth sharing.

Thanks for spending a few minutes with us.

Let's get started.

Help Us Stay in the Know!

One of the things we love about Fairbanks is how much is always happening around our community. From school fundraisers and family activities to small business events and neighborhood gatherings, there's often more going on than any one person can keep track of.

That's where you come in! If you're organizing an event, know about something interesting happening around town, or have community news worth sharing, we'd love to hear about it.

FYI Fairbanks is meant to be a place where we can help one another stay connected to what's happening in our corner of Alaska. And the more you share, the more we can help spread the word.

Have something coming up? Submit it here. We'd love to include more of the things that matter to you and your neighbors!

Support events and businesses that help make Fairbanks a great place to live, work, and play.

Shaun Kraska of Somers Sotheby's International Realty

After spending 30 years as a public school teacher and administrator, Shaun Kraska wasn't ready to stop helping people. She just needed a new way to do it. That next chapter led her to real estate, where she discovered that helping people buy and sell homes wasn't so different from her years in education.

Born and raised in Fairbanks, Shaun now owns Shaun Kraska Real Estate and works as a REALTOR® with Somers Sotheby's International Realty. She enjoys meeting new people, building relationships, and helping clients navigate one of the biggest decisions of their lives. For Shaun, real estate is about much more than showing houses. It's about solving problems, working through unexpected challenges, and celebrating alongside clients when everything comes together.

Some of her most meaningful experiences have been close to home, including helping one son sell his house and helping her other son and daughter-in-law purchase their first home. She also loves reconnecting with former students and their families, especially seeing young people she once taught now working, raising families, and buying homes in Fairbanks.

Having spent more than 50 years in the Interior, Shaun knows Fairbanks well and loves everything that comes with living here. Summers are spent gardening, hiking, fishing, and enjoying the family cabin, while winters bring skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and sledding with her grandkids.

"I choose Fairbanks. I choose this community," Shaun says. That commitment extends beyond her work in real estate to supporting other local businesses and the people who make Fairbanks home.

If you're considering buying or selling a home, know someone who is, or simply have questions about the local market, Shaun is happy to help.

Last week, we asked what you're looking forward to with winter's arrival in Fairbanks. Here's what a few of you had to say:

“The winding down of summer! Going back to hibernation so to speak.”

“Dog mushing!!!”

“A break from summer yard work and a chance to cozy up inside and relax.” — Barbara M.

Whether it's getting outside with the dogs or enjoying a slower pace indoors, there's something to appreciate about the change of seasons!
